energy content definition

energy content means the energy contained within a substance (whether measured by a calorimeter or determined in some other way) expressed in terms of the substance’s gross calorific value within the meaning of BS 7420:1991 (Guide for the determination of calorific values of solid, liquid and gaseous fuels (including definitions))(7);
energy content has the meaning given to that term in Annex 7 (FMS arrangements, Sustainability Criteria and RQM Calculation Methodology) in relation to a substance’s “gross calorific value” (provided that this definition shall apply to the Contract for Difference only if the Renewable Qualifying Multiplier is expressed to apply to the Contract for Difference in the CfD Agreement);
energy content means the lower caloric value of a fuel.

More Definitions of energy content

energy content means the gross heating value of the gas expressed in megajoules per cubic metre at ambient conditions unless otherwise specified;
energy content means the lower calorific value of fuel;
energy content means, for a quantity of gas, the energy produced by complete combustion of the quantity of gas with air, at Standard Conditions, with the gas and air free of water vapour, the products of combustion restored to Standard Conditions, and the water formed by combustion condensed into a liquid state.
energy content shall be measured "real" and shall mean that number of megajoules produced by the complete combustion at a constant pressure of 1.01325 Bar absolute of 1 cubic metre of gas at 15° C with excess air at the same temperature and pressure as the gas when the products of combustion are cooled at 15° C and when the water formed by combustion is condensed to the liquid state and the products of combustion contain the same total mass of water vapour as the gas and air before combustion;
energy content means the lower calorific value of the fuel, which is determined at 15 ⁰C0⁰3FC and expressed as megajoules per litre or megajoules per kilogramme;
energy content means the number of GJ’s per 103m3, or the number of MMBtu’s per Mcf, determined by using the heat content factor announced for the applicable time by the pipeline company which announces the heat content factor for the applicable Delivery Point.
energy content. , means the amount of energy contained within a fuel or feedstock, specifically, the regulations refer to the substance’s “gross calorific value (GCV) within the meaning of British Standard BS 7420:1991”. For example, we may need to know the number of megajoules (MJ) of energy in a given quantity (e.g. a tonne) of fuel, or the percentage of the energy content of a fuel (or combination of fuels) that is from a fossil or biomass source. NB. For those self-reporting against the sustainability requirements, there is a different definition of ‘energy content’ for the purpose of greenhouse gas calculations. The sustainability self-reporting guidance provides further information.
