DOTT definition

DOTT means Duties Other Than Teaching and includes the professional responsibilities carried out by a Teacher within the timetable which does not require Face-to-Face teaching time or supervision of students. Kindergarten, Pre-primary and Secondary Teachers will be allocated 320 minutes of DOTT time per week and Primary School Teachers will be allocated a maximum of 320 minutes (both pro-rated for Teachers who work less than full-time hours). This time may be used at the discretion of the Teacher, with its primary focus being on preparation for teaching, learning, and assessment.

Examples of DOTT in a sentence

  • DOTT for part-time staff will be calculated using the same proportion.

  • The additional release time unlike DOTT time is not discretionary, but will be used for professional interaction with senior staff, specialists, mentors or any other purpose by agreement with the Principal.

  • For example, DOTT time should not be regularly timetabled to conflict with regularly scheduled school activities such as assemblies.

  • Part-time teachers may be required to perform relief teaching during their DOTT time in the same proportion.

  • In the event where the College cannot engage a relief teacher and the absence of the classroom teacher was unplanned, full-time teaching staff may be asked to cover a class during their DOTT time.

  • Full-time teachers with a full teaching load may be required to perform a maximum of five periods per term of relief teaching during their DOTT entitlement without a relief allowance.

  • It is recognised the purpose of DOTT time is to undertake duties other than face to face teaching as provided in clause 10.5. Teachers may be required to take less DOTT time per week and ‘bank’ the remaining time to be taken cumulatively later but must be provided back to the teacher by the end of the school year.

  • The timing and frequency of such sessions must not conflict with the priority use of DOTT as provided for at clause 11.2.

  • In addition, the Release Time can be used for purposes in accordance with Clause 12.1 – Duties Other Than Teaching (DOTT) of the agreement and to provide release for participation in professional learning activities that are consistent with the Graduate Teacher Induction (GTI).
