Dockless definition

Dockless means a system of self-service mobility devices made available for shared use to individuals on a short-term basis, which may be rented through a smart-phone app, vendor website, vendor customer service number, or a pre-paid PIN and which do not require structures at permanent, fixed locations where rides must begin and end.
Dockless approach means that an e-scooter can be dropped off almost anywhere within a designated service area. (They are redistributed daily or more often by the company to keep their access quick and easy.) E-scooters can be rented by the minute for a modest fee (typically $1 initially and 15 cents a minute thereafter) and can be located and unlocked through an app. Memberships are usually optional but make use and payment quicker and easier for the frequent user.
