counterfeit banknotes definition

counterfeit banknotes means any banknote, other than a banknote of the Bank, resembling or apparently intended to resemble or pass for a banknote of the Bank, and includes a banknote of the Bank prepared or altered so as to resemble or pass for a banknote of a higher denomination;
counterfeit banknotes and 'counterfeit coins’ shall mean banknotes and coins denominated in euro which are identified by means of technical analysis to have been fraudulently made or altered;
counterfeit banknotes and “counterfeit coins” shall mean banknotes and coins denominated in euro or which have the appearance of euro banknotes or coins and which have been fraudulently made or altered.

This term includes, but is not limited to, (A) parts that have been (re)marked to disguise them or falsely represent the identity of the manufacturer, (B) defective parts and/or surplus material scrapped by the original manufacturer, and (C) previously used parts pulled or reclaimed and provided as “new”.
