Biofiltration definition

Biofiltration means a LID BMP that reduces stormwater pollutant discharges by intercepting rainfall on vegetative canopy, and through incidental infiltration and/or evapotranspiration, and filtration. Incidental infiltration is an important factor in achieving the required pollutant load reduction. Therefore, the term “biofiltration” as used in this Ordinance is defined to include only systems designed to facilitate incidental infiltration or achieve the equivalent pollutant reduction as biofiltration BMPs with an underdrain (subject to approval by the Regional Board’s Executive Officer).
Biofiltration means the process of passing a liquid through a biological filter that contains fixed media on surfaces which develop zoogleal films that absorb and adsorb fine suspended, colloidal, and dissolved solids and release end products of biochemical action.
Biofiltration means the effect of vegetated treatment facilities that reduce stormwater pollutant discharges by intercepting rainfall on vegetative canopy, and through incidental infiltration or evapotranspiration, and filtration;

More Definitions of Biofiltration

Biofiltration means a pollution control technique that uses living material to capture, and absorb or biologically degrade Pollutants.
Biofiltration means practices that use vegetation and amended soils to detain and treat runoff from impervious areas. Treatment is through filtration, infiltration, adsorption, ion exchange, and biological uptake of pollutants.
Biofiltration means the simultaneous process of filtration, adsorption and biological uptake of pollutants in stormwater that takes place when shallow-depth runoff flows slowly over and through vegetated areas.
Biofiltration means the process of reducing pollutant concentrations in water by filtering the polluted water through biological materials.
Biofiltration means the use of vegetation, including grasses and wetland plants, to filter and treat stormwater runoff as it is conveyed through an open channel or swale.
