ARIDE is intended to bridge the gap between these two programs by providing officers with general knowledge related to drug impairment and by promoting the use of DREs in states that have the DEC Program.
The Department has encouraged patrol officers and traffic officers to focus enforcement on reducing the alcohol as well as sending officers to advanced training such as ARIDE and DRE.
The first step would be to attend the DAR / ARIDE / Drug Abuse Recognition training (DAR) / DUI Detection – Field sobriety training first.
The training officer must be a Drug Recognition Expert or ARIDE trained.
The agency certifies that all officers participating in these patrols are SFST trained and meet the following requirement: Officer must be BAC certified and have passed the SFST refresher training within the prior three years, or Officer must have successfully completed Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE), or Officer must be a certified Drug Recognition Expert.
