In its 17 October 2024 submission to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s (ACCC) Draft Determination regarding authorisation of the Marketing in Australia of Infant Formula: Manufacturers and Importers Agreement (MAIF Agreement), the Department of Health and Aged Care outlined practical steps that it will take to strengthen the voluntary MAIF arrangements. These aim to ensure that there is a net public benefit attributable to a re-authorised MAIF Agreement during the transition to statutory controls. These arrangements would be in place as soon as possible for the proposed two year interim period before mandating the MAIF Agreement.
