The need for the Industrial Investment Challenge Fund was identified through the development of the MSW Regional Economic Strategy (RES). The intervention, which sits under the Boosting Innovation & Digital Capacity pillar of the RES, seeks to address the productivity gap that exists in the region which is almost 10% lower than the rest of NI and 15% lower than the UK average. Recognising the importance of embracing the ‘new’ digital era and keeping pace with technologies that are giving rise to new business models, with organisations using digital to create and monetise new forms of value, MSW plans, through the IICF to support businesses with in-house innovation, and the introduction of Industry 4.0 and emerging technologies into their operations along with boosting innovation across existing and emerging sectors.
