WORKWEEK AND HOURS OF WORK. The workday, workweek, and the work schedule of unit members shall be designated by the District. Changes may be made by the District in accordance with the provisions of this Agreement. It shall be clearly communicated to each unit member who her/his supervisor is. Work direction shall emanate either from a designated lead or the supervisor. In cases where this is unclear, the unit member may request a determination in writing from the appropriate campus Vice-President or District Vice-Chancellor. This Article shall not restrict the extension of the regular workday or workweek on an overtime basis on a non-regular or emergency basis when such is necessary to carry on the business of the District. If at all practicable, a minimum of one (1) workday notice shall be given prior to extending the unit member’s workday or workweek. Nothing in this Article shall be deemed to prevent the District from establishing a workday of less than eight (8) hours or a workweek of less than forty (40) hours for any of its classified positions.

Unit members who are not required or requested to work overtime during a specific time period, may voluntarily request on a non-regular, non-reoccurring basis to modify the hours on one day and make up the hours on another day as long as the total number of hours worked in any week does not exceed forty (40). Such request must be made in writing on the District's "Employee Request for Temporary Schedule Change" form and approved by the unit member's immediate supervisor prior to this modification of the workday. No overtime hours shall be earned under this provision.
