(a) When a regular permanent employee suffers an occupational injury approved by the Workers' Compensation Board under the Workers' Compensation Act, the employee's normal salary shall be continued for a period of not more than eighteight (8) calendar weeks, or until the status of the Workers' Compensation Board payment changes to disability pension, or other Workers' Compensation settlement, whichever occurs first.
