The work year shall consist of not more than one hundred eighty-five (185) days, including instructional days, professional days, pre-school days, and work days. New teachers work an additional three (3) days for mandatory new teacher orientation. New teachers will be paid a stipend of $200.00 per day, to be paid on the first day of school, upon completion of the three (3) days of new teacher orientation. The instructional day is a day devoted to instruction, preparation, parent-teacher conferences, and/or in-service activities. If the Board should desire a calendar longer than one hundred eighty-five (185) days, negotiations will resume at that point on that issue only.\nB. The teacher work day for the Member of the Bargaining Unit shall consist of not more than seven (7) hours, twenty (20) minutes, exclusive of a thirty (30) minute duty free lunch. Within this seven (7) hour, twenty (20) minute teacher work day, Members of the Bargaining Unit will have a minimum of ten (10) minutes preparation time before student contact begins and after student contact ends, unless a rotating duty is assigned. Other contract days shall consist of not more than six (6) hours, exclusive of a lunch break. Professional development day hours are 8:00 \u2013 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 \u2013 3:00 p.m. Should the Administration decide that blocks of time past the contract day are necessary to accommodate Parent-Teacher conferences, then compensatory time will be granted in a manner that allows for an extended weekend within the week of the final additional time.\nC. Members of the Bargaining Unit will attend scheduled in-service activities and meetings on professional, pre-school, and work days. Members of the Bargaining Unit will be expected to attend regularly scheduled faculty meetings and specially called faculty meetings which may not extend more than one hour beyond the regular contract day. Teachers who cannot attend specially called meeting shall make arrangements with the appropriate administrator. If leave other than school business is utilized on a professional development day, the principal will assign a make-up activity for the teacher to complete.\nD. For the purpose of compensation only, per diem will be calculated on the basis of the instructional, professional, pre-school, and work days in the current work year.\nE. The Senior High teaching day will consist of no more than seven (7) consecutive periods, to include six (6) classes and one (1) planning period. They will receive at least 30 consecutive minutes at some point in their day with an additional 15 minutes before or after student arrival/dismissal.\n7-9 All elementary school teachers and elementary teaching specialists will receive at least one daily preparation period of 45 consecutive minutes. One (1) preparation period per week will be designated for common planning time or grade level team meetings. All elementary specialists will teach no more than six (6) periods per day.\n7-10 All middle school teachers will receive at least 45 consecutive minutes of preparation time daily. One (1) preparation period per week will be designated for common planning time or grade level team meetings.\n7-11 All high school teachers will be assigned 5 classes, have only one duty period and one preparation period. Each period will run approximately 50-80 minutes.\n7-12 In order to meet the scheduling needs of students which arise from time to time, the Superintendent may post, in accordance with Article 20-2, the availability of an extra class of instruction in lieu of a preparation period. Compensation for such instruction will be 1/7 (one-seventh) of the assigned teacher\u2019s current base salary.\n7-13 Before and after school duties (during the teachers required school day) will be assigned equitably.\n7-14 Teachers may leave the school grounds with the permission of the building principal or his designee during the time school is in session. This shall include a teacher\u2019s duty-free lunch period.\n7-15 Teachers\u2019 participation in extracurricular activities and all other activities beyond the regular school hours shall be voluntary and/or compensated according to schedule. (Appendix B). Meetings\n7-16 Teachers may be required to attend two (2) meetings per month: one (1) shall be a general faculty meeting and one (1) shall be for grade level or departmental curriculum development. Such meetings may be up to seventy-five (75) minutes in duration. Parent/evening meetings\n7-17 Teachers (which includes all bargaining unit members) may be required to attend up to 3 scheduled evening events which may include but is not limited to parent teacher conferences, orientation and showcase. Teacher attendance at each event shall be limited to 2 hours. The administration will seek input from building representatives when determining the start and end time of each event. Substitutes\n7-18 The Committee will advertise for substitute teachers and nurses as necessary. Every effort will be made to hire substitutes for absent teachers and nurses.\n7-19 Every effort will be made to avoid using a regularly assigned teacher as a substitute teacher. In those cases where regular substitutes are not available, a regular teacher may be assigned to serve as a substitute during his/her preparation time. The teacher will be compensated at a rate of $45. Nurses\n7-20 Nurses covered under this contract shall be licensed by the DESE. Due to the nature of their work, nurses will use their professional discretion in determining their daily schedule.
