Volunteer Time. There are legitimate opportunities for employees to volunteer for civic, charitable, or humanitarian events at the University. For example, when a department hosts a charity fundraising pancake breakfast and employees donate their time to support the event. True volunteer work is unpaid time and therefore should not be recorded. True volunteer work: • Must be performed for civic, charitable, or humanitarian reasons; • There can be no promise, expectations, or receipt of compensation; and • The person must offer services freely and without any (direct or indirect) coercion. An employee may not volunteer their time to perform the same or similar duties that they perform as an employee. For example, it would not be appropriate to ask the department webmaster to mock up a website for a fundraising event without compensating the employee for this work.
Volunteer Time. Previous experience of using volunteer time as match has been that for some organisations the obligations have proved too rigorous. To mitigate this, the use of volunteer time as match must be agreed with Active Luton. The Funder also require projects to have 10% cash match funding as a minimum. How to value unpaid volunteer time: Match up the volunteer role to the mean hourly wage rate for the specific role e.g., align pay rate of ‘groundsmen and greenkeepers’ with volunteer greenkeepers. Active Luton will require a project using volunteer time as match to submit full audit trail details for example timesheets with their first – and all subsequent – claim(s). A copy of the revised guidelines in relation to the evidence required for processing claims is also provided for your wider information. Our partnership agreement reflects these changes. For example, the YED program was successful in engaging Silatech to provide much needed career advice training and make the Tamheed career guidance tool available for free for two years by XXX’s partners. YED has also started to engage and explore cooperation with the Portland Trust, a British organization that works with and supports private sector in Palestine.
