Verbal Counseling. Verbal counseling is an informal level of corrective action. Verbal counseling is not disciplinary action. Verbal counseling is not grievable. It is a warning given by an immediate supervisor in conference with an employee in which the matter is discussed with the employee. The employee will be advised what action is expected of him or her to correct the problem.

Verbal Counseling. Records of verbal counseling shall not be placed in the faculty member’s personnel file. Verbal counseling will include specific actions to be taken and a timeline for achieving correction of the problem(s). Verbal counseling will be followed up with a written summary of the counseling. Verbal Counseling. Generally, to the greatest extent practicable, employees shall be provided with verbal clarification and direction as to work performance which may violate any practice, policy or rule of the department or City, or which may otherwise constitute a basis for discipline if such behavior or performance is continued or uncorrected.
