UNPAID VACATION. An employee who is not eligible to accumulate paid vacation for use when school is in session shall receive, upon request in accordance with vacation procedures, up to five (5) days of unpaid vacation during the employment year. It is not accumulative. (See also Article XIV, Section I.) The unpaid vacation will be prorated and deducted over one pay if one day's vacation is used; over two pays if two or three days are used; over three pays if four or five days are used.

UNPAID VACATION. 12.1 A two week unpaid vacation will be, as far as practical, granted at the time most desired by the employee. Employees with five years or longer service by December 31st are entitled to a three week unpaid vacation in the following year. Vacation pay entitlement for the following year will be established based on each employee’s service at December 31st as follows: Basic entitlement - 4% of wages After 3 years - 6% of wages After 10 years - 8% of wages After 16 years - 10% of wages After 25 years - 11.5% of wages
UNPAID VACATION. Under extraordinary circumstances and at the discretion of the Director with Board approval, an employee may be granted unpaid vacation time. Such time may not exceed one-half (1/2) of the earned vacation time in such year. The employee’s written application therefore must detail the need for such time.

The request must be submitted in a timely manner prior to the Board meeting when the leave will be considered. Unpaid vacations need to be approved by the Director of Personnel and are to be used when other school district calendars do not match the Brunswick City School District Calendar.
