University Service. Consistent with their principal duties, all Faculty Members have the right and responsibility to participate in University governance through election or appointment to governing bodies, committees, councils and in the work of outside academic and professional organizations related to their discipline and to the wider community.

University Service. IV.2.1.4.1 Members shall not be expected to serve on more than one (1) Senate or University committee at any one time. In addition, over any seven-year period, a member shall not be required to serve more than two (2) years on one (1) or more major University committee (i.e., Senate Budget, USC, COAP, Graduate Studies). At the request of the member, the Nominating Committee of Faculty Board will consider membership on Senate as equivalent to service on a major Senate or University committee, except in respect of the Chair of the Senate Budget Committee.
University Service. University service may include participation in the work of committees of the Libraries, the University, Faculties, and Departments; in the Association; and in other activities that contribute to the quality of the academic life of the University as described in the Evaluation Policy of the Libraries.

University service is considered paid time and therefore should be recorded. An employee must discuss such activities with their supervisor before agreeing to a commitment outside of his/her normal scope of work, and such activities should not interfere with an employee’s job performance or create an undue disruption to the department.
