Type of Work. The Chief of the Department may assign employees to the following light duty positions: Driver/Chauffeur for Duty Battalion Chiefs, Fire Prevention, Training Division, or other divisions of the Fire Department as selected by the Chief of the Department, assisting the Training Officer, assisting the Supply Officer and per- forming other similar tasks involved in the ordinary course of business of the Fire Department.

Type of Work. The character of the work covered by this Agreement shall be all heavy, highway and building work falling within the recognized jurisdiction of Local Union #34. The parties hereto agree to recognize the formal rulings of the General President of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America embodied in said President's letter of May 13, 1955, in response to Contractors' letter of July 17, 1955 and his letter of November 11, 1955, with clarification as stated in letter of December 12, 1967 and February 18, 1970. For example, if the Contractor informs the Engineer that he will be on the job on a certain day and then has to cancel the appointment because he cannot obtain certain materials or equipment, it is the Contractor's responsibility to inform the Engineer of these latest developments and to let him know that construction observation services will not be needed for that day. In the event that the Engineer is not given ample warning of such a cancellation and, as a result, unnecessary time is spent sending field personnel out to the project site to observe the previously scheduled construction, sufficient funds will be deducted from monies due the Contractor to reimburse the Engineer for his wasted time. By the same token, sufficient funds will be deducted from monies due the Contractor to reimburse the Engineer for any services rendered in the field or in the office regarding work that had to be performed a second time due to substandard work on the part of the Contractor on the original work.
