The corresponding adaptations shall also be made to the protective equipment of the lines in the Piura Oeste and Pariñas substations. The transmission lines shall have the following protection: • Primary protection: This protection shall consist of an independent multifunction protection unit, including, among others, the functions of line differential protection (87L), distance, reclosing, ground directional overcurrent, under- and overvoltage, synchronism, fault-closing, etc. With oscillography, fault locator and recorder. The transmission line shall also have a fiber optic link teleprotection system. • Backup protection: similar to the primary protection, in a separate protection unit. The single-phase reclosing shall coordinate with the teleprotection system the activation of the circuit breakers located at both ends of the line.
Transmission Line. A new 345-kV transmission line will be needed to connect the new substation to the existing BPA line. If the substation is located at the BPA right-of-way, this line would be very short. The line would have two circuits, one into the substation and one out of the substation. The construction could be similar to the existing lattice towers, and require a right-of-way of up to 300 feet in width.
