Teacher Duty Days. The Board shall establish the number of school days and teacher duty days for the next school year. The teacher shall perform services on those days as determined by the Board, including those legal holidays on which the Board is authorized to conduct school and, pursuant to such authority, has determined to conduct school. Each teacher will have 184 duty days. Teachers new to the School District, only during their first complete year in the School District will have 185 duty days. Any changes in the school calendar will be done in accordance with established meet and confer procedures. The School District recognizes the right of the Association to meet and confer regarding the number of teacher duty days and their placement on the school calendar.

The District shall provide the Association the opportunity to meet and confer on the calendar prior to March 1.

The number of teacher duty days shall be 183. The School District reserves the right to add an additional duty day for staff development in any school year. If the School District exercises its discretion to add the staff development day, teachers shall receive an additional day’s pay for that school year only.

Prior to the adoption of the calendar, the District, or its representatives, will meet with the Association at least twice (if two meetings are needed) to exchange information and opinions concerning the calendar. The School District has the right to require part-time teachers to work full days on conference, curriculum and workshop days. If the School District requires a part-time teacher to work more than his/her contract amount on a conference, curriculum or workshop day, the part- time teacher will receive pro rata pay for the additional hours required to be worked.

For schools following a trimester schedule, one day at the beginning of the school year and one day at the end of each trimester shall be used at the discretion of each teacher for grading and other activities related to her or his teaching assignment, including voluntary meetings with other teachers. In addition, two (2) to nine (9) days will be used for staff development. Utilization of non-student days may be subject to the Meet and Confer process.

The number of student contact days, parent conference days and grading days included in the remaining days shall be determined by the District. Opportunity shall be afforded to the Exclusive Representative to meet and confer on the calendar prior to its adoption. Consideration will be given to setting aside days for grading and conference preparation.
