STREAMSIDE MANAGEMENT ZONES. (11/98) A Streamside Management Zone (SMZ) is a zone that contains riparian vegetation or other special characteristics. Areas identified as Streamside Management Zones (SMZ's) are areas marked on the ground or are within the distances identified on the Sale Area Map measured from the centerline of stream courses. Centerlines will be designated in N/A flagging in the field, by the Forest Service prior to release of payment unit. Timber designation, conduct of logging, and/or slash treatment may differ in the SMZ from the rest of the unit.
