Standardization and Governance Sample Clauses

Standardization and Governance. It is clear that there are a surprising number of Standards covering materials and associated Standards Committees. In addition there is an abundance of related materials vocabulary Standards, designed to serve the interests of the sector to which the relevant Standards apply. However, as evidenced by the existence of numerous similar definitions for the same terms, there is redundancy. This has implications for the development of technologies for engineering materials data that depend on precise definitions. For future co-operation with SDOs on the development of Standards for representing and reporting engineering materials data, further effort is necessary to inform materials suppliers and companies with an interest in materials testing of the benefits and implications for their businesses. Once properly informed, they will be in a position to contribute to the development of such Standards in a manner that ensures their business activities are not adversely affected.
Standardization and Governance. A streamlining of existing materials terms and definitions according to the recommendations of ISO 704 is necessary for the further development of technologies for engineering materials data. For this work to be undertaken at the initiative of CEN, it would be necessary for a TC to be identified (or perhaps established) to take responsibility for generic materials issues, including vocabulary, computer technologies, and possibly other topics that are gaining increasing importance, such as environmental impact. The materials community, especially as represented by OEMs, materials suppliers, and companies with an interest in materials testing that participate, has been made aware of the work of CEN/▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇ on the development of Standards for representing and reporting engineering materials data. Consequently, it is recommended that arrangements are made (a) with VAMAS TWA 35 for short term hosting and (b) with CEN TC 310 for establishing a Joint Working Group (JWG) for long term hosting of the CEN/▇▇ ▇▇▇▇▇ deliverables. It is further recommended that the inaugural meeting of the JWG should be held in conjunction with the final meeting of the SERES Plenary Meeting early in 2014, invitations to which would be extended to representatives from relevant ISO Committees. With UN/CEFACT having established a track record for delivering and maintaining technologies in support of electronic business, engagement with UN/CEFACT will serve to encourage the further development and adoption of the technologies for engineering materials data. Further, the existing memorandum of understanding between UN/ECE and IEC, ISO, and ITU should be examined with a view to establishing the scope of any potential co-operation between ISO TC 184/SC 4 and UN/CEFACT on the maintenance and hosting of ICT Standards for engineering materials data.
