Staff Absences.
11.1 The employer recognises the impact of unfilled absences on the standard of care and on other employees. Further, the employer is committed to ensuring that it maximises the engagement of its permanent workforce where possible.
11.2 The employer will utilise best endeavours to replace employees who are absent (e.g. due to sick leave, annual leave, training) as follows, subject to consideration of whether excessive overtime by an individual employee would be worked:
(a) The vacant shift will first be offered to permanent staff in the same or higher classification;
(b) If a permanent staff member is unavailable the vacancy will be offered to casual staff in the same or higher classification;
(c) If the vacancy remains unfilled after (a) and (b) above, contact will be made with at least one employment agency and where an employee of the same or higher classification is able to fill the vacancy, the position will be filled by an agency employee.
(d) Where a replacement cannot be found, the Centre Manager, Care Manager, or Registered Nurse in Charge or however appointed will assess the work to be performed on that shift. The duties will be adjusted to ensure the work can be performed safely and appropriately. Part 3 - Types of Employment and Termination of Employment
Staff Absences. When a Lutheran School Officer is absent for more than three days and that absence is unplanned, the remaining Lutheran School Officers will not normally be required to carry out the duties of the absent Lutheran School Officer. Where a Lutheran School Officer is absent due to attendance at School-instigated activities such as conferences and school camps, the remaining Lutheran School Officers will not be required to carry out the duties of the absent Lutheran School Officer.
Staff Absences. 1. If CONTRACTOR’S service provider is absent, CONTRACTOR shall provide a qualified substitute, as defined in Section (I)(F)(4) of this Master Contract and as determined by SCUSD. SCUSD will not pay for services unless a qualified substitute is provided and/or CONTRACTOR provides documentation evidencing the provision of “make-up” services by a qualified service provider.
2. The CONTRACTOR shall notify the student’s parent regarding staff absences and provision of “make-up” services by a qualified service provider.
3. The CONTRACTOR shall notify its employees who are SCUSD employees that an absence from their regular duties for SCUSD work prohibits them from working for a CONTRACTOR on that same day of absence if the absence was for illness.
Staff Absences. When a classroom teacher is absent, The CONTRACTOR shall provide appropriate coverage in the absent teacher's classroom in accordance with EC section 56061. The CONTRACTOR shall provide the LEA the documentation of such coverage upon request. CONTRACTORS who provide nurses, 1:1 aides or 1:1 behavior intervention staff in accordance with an individual student’s IEP/IFSP shall provide substitute coverage when the staff member is absent, unless other arrangements have been made with the LEA on a case by case basis.

Staff Absences. Where an employee is absent because of illness and that employee has notified the School within the first 3 days of absence or within such time as provides the School with reasonable notice that the absence is likely to be prolonged, the remaining employees will not normally be required to carry out the duties of the absent employee.
Staff Absences. Employees requesting to be absent from work shall log the absence into the online reporting tool and contact the immediate supervisor in a manner as designated by the immediate supervisor at the beginning of the school year, including but not limited to phone call, text, or email. Additional procedures for each type of leave will be outlined in subsequent sections of this Article.
Staff Absences. An employee will report his/her absence to a web-based attendance program by 6:45 a.m. of each day of absence. Except in cases of emergency, the employee shall notify his/her supervisor as early as possible.

As appropriate, the CONTRACTOR and the LEA may make arrangements for make-up sessions, usually within thirty (30) days, at a mutually convenient time and location if appropriate staff is not available to provide coverage for staff absences. The CONTRACTORS who provide nurses, 1:1 aides or 1:1 behavior intervention staff in accordance with an individual student’s IEP/IFSP shall provide substitute coverage when the staff member is absent, unless other arrangements have been made with the LEA on a case by case basis.
