Spousal Waiver. If an employee’s spouse is eligible to participate, as a current employee or retiree in group health insurance and/or prescription drug insurance sponsored by his/her employer or any public retirement plan, the spouse must enroll in such employer (or public retirement plan) sponsored group insurance coverage(s). This requirement does not apply to any spouse who works less than 30 hours per week AND is required to pay more than 50% of the single premium to participate in his/her employer’s group health insurance coverage and/or prescription drug insurance coverage. This requirement also does not apply to any spouse who is a retiree under a public retirement plan and enrolled in Medicare coverage. Upon the spouse’s enrollment in any such employer (or public retirement plan) sponsored group insurance coverage, that coverage will become the primary payor of benefits and the coverage sponsored by the Board will become the secondary payor of benefits. Any spouse who fails to enroll in any group insurance coverage sponsored by his/her employer or any public retirement plan, as required by this Section, shall be ineligible for benefits under such group insurance coverage sponsored by the Board. Effective immediately, and notwithstanding anything herein to the contrary, if a Bargaining Unit Member’s spouse is employed by another employer and the spouse’s employer provides individual medical coverage, the spouse shall not be eligible to participate in the District’s medical plan(s). Any spouse currently covered by the District’s medical benefits plan must provide written verification indicating that he/she is not eligible to receive or elect benefits from his/her employer. If a spouse currently covered under the District’s medical benefits plan can elect coverage from his/her employer, the spouse shall be removed from the District's medical benefits plan and enrolled in his/her employer's plan at the first available opportunity. Spousal Waiver. Effective July 1, 2014, if an employee’s spouse has alternate healthcare coverage and the employee elects to remove that spouse from their current RTAA coverage, the employee will be eligible to receive fifty dollars ($50) per month added to their regular paycheck. To receive this money, the employee must specifically ask to invoke this waiver and receipt of the fifty dollars ($50) per month will become effective on the first full paycheck after the employee provides satisfactory proof of their spouse’s alternate coverage.
