SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER. To take full part in the independent project evaluation commissioned by the Department which should demonstrate whether or not these schemes can reduce the amount of time police need to spend with people with suspected mental health problems, when these people need health and support services, rather than to enter the criminal justice system. The evaluation should indicate the effect of the pilots on the numbers of people detained by police under Section 136. Above all, the evaluation should show whether or not it will be cost effective for forces to continue the pilots after the period of Departmental funding.
