Common use of Resident Nurse Clause in Contracts

Resident Nurse. A nurse whose clinical experience after graduation is less than six (6) months, or a nurse who is returning to practice with no current clinical training or experience or is assigned residency status when cross training to a new clinical area. A Resident Nurse shall be assigned under the close and direct supervision of more experienced nurses and shall be responsible for the direct care of limited numbers of patients. Residency shall not exceed six (6) continuous months and for an additional three (3) continuous months when mutually agreed to in writing by the Employer and the individual nurse involved. Close and direct supervision shall be defined as working in conjunction with other nurses. During the review period, nurses working under close and direct supervision shall not be scheduled as the only nurse on the unit for a regularly scheduled shift.
