Common use of Removable media devices Clause in Contracts

Removable media devices. All electronic files that contain PHI COUNTY discloses to CONTRACTOR or CONTRACTOR creates, receives, maintains, or transmits on behalf of COUNTY must be encrypted when stored on any removable media or portable device (i.e. USB thumb drives, floppies, CD/DVD, Blackberry, backup tapes etc.). Encryption must be a FIPS 140-2 certified algorithm which is 128bit or higher, such as AES. Such PHI shall not be considered “removed from the premises” if it is only being transported from one of CONTRACTOR’s locations to another of CONTRACTOR’s locations.
