Purpose of Study. The purpose of this study was to investigate the extent to which the prefectship system in Botswana schools develop and nurture students democratically. The study also investigated why and how the schools in Botswana embark on such a system and finally the study evaluated whether the system was bringing good results for both the students and the school organization on issues of democratic engagement. Significance of the Study According to Xxxxxx (2003) the purpose of the prefectship system can be seen as two- fold. Firstly, it is to serve the school’s immediate need for effective management and maintaining discipline and order and implementing the school’s development projects. Secondly, it is preparing the students for future citizenship as prescribed by education systems of most countries (p.14). Given Xxxxxx’s observations, we can deduce that the prefectship system can serve the school organization in many ways and at the same time instilling citizenship education in the minds of the students. This study can therefore be used by the schools to improve or re-align their prefectship systems and it can also influence government to introduce civic education in schools. The study is quite essential in that it provides a lens on the evaluation of the effectiveness of the prefectship system in so far as it produces vocal, vibrant and active leaders. Moswela (1995) states that since students are the most extensive users of the school facilities they could be a good source of information and ideas on how to improve school facilities if given the opportunity to do so (p.26). In other words, prefects should not just be used for the interest of the school authorities, but should also be used to involve students in the running as well as in infrastructural development of the school. Through their prefects, students should be able to come up with suggestions on how they want their school to be run; the involvement of students in the decision-making process can smoothen the general running of the school and take away a lot of tension. More often than not, tensions between the school administrators and students results in strikes and absolute commotion in the institution. This state of affairs can be ameliorated by putting in place an effective and efficient prefectship system. Methodology
Purpose of Study. The goal of this thesis is to expand on the data that was collected by COTN to understand whether WASH practices and socioeconomic factors contribute to diarrheal disease in school- aged children in five villages in the Moyamba District of Sierra Leone. This objective will be achieved through five specific aims, which address the goal by examining household survey data related to WASH practices and socioeconomic factors. Specific Aims
Purpose of Study. The purpose of this geotechnical work is to explore the subsurface conditions at the site based upon the proposed new plant site layout, and based on our characterization of the obtained data, to prepare a geotechnical engineering report presenting comments and recommendations to assist you and your design team in planning and construction of the project.
Purpose of Study. The harbor seal is the dominant pinniped and only year-round resident in the San Francisco Bay Area. The colony at Point Xxxxx National Seashore represents the second largest concentration of harbor seals in California and accounts for 20% of the mainland population. Most of the Point Xxxxx coastline remains relatively pristine and provides important marine and terrestrial habitat for seals to rest, molt, feed, and breed where human encroachment is minimal. Further studies are needed to investigate pinniped behavioral response to disturbance. Recent pinniped research shows the importance of spatial and temporal scales in habitat selection. While the life history of pinnipeds is generally understood, further research is needed on pinniped habitat requirements and the effects of disturbance on pinnipeds. Disturbance is defined as any activity that alters normal behavior, and in many locations, disturbance is an important factor affecting the haul-out patterns of pinnipeds. Examples of disturbance include aircraft, boats, seismic activities, pedestrians, kayakers, and natural predators. Disturbance can be anthropogenic or non-anthropogenic and both can be detrimental to pinniped populations. Anthropogenic disturbance is seen to affect haul-out site choice, breeding behaviors, feeding, and in result may cause population declines. In some situations, pinnipeds have become accustomed to disturbance, while in other situations disturbance has led to the eventual abandonment of haul-out sites. Disturbance can cause separation of mothers and pups and can be a significant source of pup mortality. Wildlife oriented recreation may also be considered a disturbance. Studies assessing the potential impact of fisheries have pointed to declines in marine mammal populations due to anthropogenic interactions and recommend comprehensive monitoring of population trends and improved regulations to minimize impacts on local pinniped population. In regards to mariculture, previous research has shown that seal disturbance rates increased with increases in oyster harvest, and that haul-out site choice can be best explained by mariculture activities. Research projects have shown the value of using video cameras to capture rare behavioral characteristics, identify critical habitat types including important foraging areas, determine local preferred prey species, and examine dive times of pinnipeds. Valuable information can be obtained on habitat use, prey species, behaviors, abundance,...
Purpose of Study. The purpose of this study was to conduct spatial analysis to examine the associations between environmental factors and incidence of leprosy in cases/100,000 person-years. Specifically, we examined the role of elevation, vegetation, temperature, and precipitation on leprosy. The main aims of the study were to: 1) examine the clustering of total leprosy incidence in Minas Gerais, Brazil on a spatial scale to identify clusters with high incidence and hot-spots and 2) to identify environmental factors of leprosy incidence associated with increased incidence of leprosy.
Purpose of Study. The purpose of this trial is to assess the potential use of an accelerometer, or activity monitor, as a means to detect seizure activity in dogs with epilepsy. EXPECTED DURATION OF PARTICIPATION The total duration of participation will be 6 months. During this time, your dog will wear a collar mounted activity monitor. You will be required to visit the veterinary hospital on 3 occasions during the study.

Purpose of Study. The goal of this paper is to explore dietary diversity, DD, on the household and child level in Bihar, India. Understanding DD on a household level predicts the level of food access and nutrients consumed by the family. The child level examines the quantity of nutrients given to the child and the beliefs of the caregivers in terms of what should be fed to a child. Knowledge of the DDS on the HH level can assist in informing stakeholders on the nutrients consumed and not consumed in their communities, level to which certain foods are available in their communities, and lead to knowing where the prevalence of the most and least food diversity exists. On the child level, it could lead to implications on the content needed to be taught to mothers. Additionally, making a comparison between the child dietary diversity and household dietary diversity can lead to understanding the effects of HDD on CDD. Making these determinations could give way to creating focused and effective nutrition interventions that reduce nutrient deficiencies and potentially increase regional human development. Research Gap In India, there has been extensive research on food security related issues. Food security at the national level is continually monitored by international organizations, i.e. the International Food and Nutrition Policy Research Institute. [16] Household food security has also been explored. [6] However, there has been limited research on the food access portion of food security and its relationship to child dietary diversity and complementary food practices in Bihar. Studies have been conducted exploring individual nutritional status and the household food security. [1, 29] Yet, little has been done to explore the similarities and differences consumption patterns of two different entities within the same household in Bihar, India. This paper aims to fulfill this gap through analyzing food intake of households and child 6-18 months; comparing and contrasting and examining the determinants of dietary diversity.

Purpose of Study. The overall objective of the project SCORCH is to reduce the health impact of heat waves on vulnerable, urban populations through improved risk communication strategies. These strategies will be informed by existing EU plans and guidelines, and by surveys on the risk perception and behavior of urban populations in EU neighborhood. In addition, we will xxxxxx a culture of prevention and cooperation across countries. We are interested in your expertise on risk communication structures in Israel in general and your recommendations for heat wave risk communication in your country in the future. What you will do in this study: We are asking for your personal opinions on risk communication, based on your professional experiences. The format will be a online group discussion as a zoom meeting, facilitated by an Xxxxxx Xxxxx and Xxxxxx Xxxxxxxxx.
