Professional/Educational Leave Clause Samples

Professional/Educational Leave. Each employee within the unit shall be entitled to a maximum of five (5) days' (40 hours') leave each fiscal year without loss of compensation for the purpose of attending professional and/or educational activities related to nursing, including home-study courses. Although requests for professional/educational leave will be granted provided an employee has submitted a written request, the ability to take professional/educational leave is subject to management’s reasonable judgment as to the maintenance of minimum work forces at all times, peak workload coverage, and public convenience. Requests for professional/educational leave will not be denied solely based on subject matter. Professional/educational leave should be scheduled as far in advance as reasonably possible. Up to 20 hours of unused professional/educational leave may be carried over into the next fiscal year, but an employee’s balance may never exceed 60 hours.
Professional/Educational Leave. Leave of absence with or without pay may be granted to an employee at the discretion of the Employer, to attend professional and education meetings, courses or other events which are judged by the Employer to be beneficial. Where the Employer requires an employee to take a course or workshop it will pay the course fee, provided the employee meets the course pass requirements, if any. Furthermore, the Employer will pay the member for any client visits missed as a result of attendance at such required course or workshop.
Professional/Educational Leave. Professional/ Educational leave requires prior written approval of the Program Director for appropriateness of the conference and for addressing coverage issues. For Medical residents: Reimbursement for resident participation in Professional/ Educational conferences are for residents who are presenting at the conference and require prior approval of the Program Director, and/or the Director of Medical Education/DIO taking into consideration coverage, patient care, and educational issues as delineated in the program-specific resident manual and the GME policy. For Dental residents: Second year dental residents will attend the AAPD annual meeting in May. If the dental resident is entitled to paid professional education leave, the resident shall be entitled to be reimbursed up to $1,500 for expenses incurred to attend the professional education activity, but only if the activity is approved in advance by the Director of Medical Education/DIO and the Program Director. In the event the resident is eligible for professional leave and approval to take such leave is granted, the resident is responsible for arranging alternate coverage and to notify the hospital operator. The educational leave must be in writing. For all residents, the process of submitting request for educational leave is specified in the program-specific Resident Manual and approval is at the discretion of the Program Director.
Professional/Educational Leave. At the discretion of the Program Director, residents may be granted paid or unpaid educational leave to attend specialty-sponsored society meetings and other conferences, to present research or other scholarly work at local, regional, or national meetings, to sit for exams (e.g., United States Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), boards), to interview for advanced training (fellowships) or to participate in other activities related to their educational program. Travel time should not extend beyond the dates of the meeting plus reasonable travel time. Additional days will be considered as vacation time. It is the responsibility of the Program Director to determine the number professional/educational leave days that each resident receives.
Professional/Educational Leave. The Board will provide professional leave: Type 1: Educational Leave - Leave that involves participation in workshops or training that would benefit the Bargaining Unit members in their teaching assignments. These education leave days shall be without loss of pay and shall be equitably divided among sites with a minimum number of days equal to one-fourth of the members of each site. Type 2: Associational Leave - Leave without loss of pay that can be taken upon a notification by the TEA President to the Superintendent, Principal(s)/Supervisor(s) of the employee(s) taking Association leave, and district Personnel Manager to conduct or attend to Association business or participate in Association-related activities that cannot be accomplished at any other time. Except in the case of emergency, a minimum of seven (7) calendar days notice shall be provided. Association leave may not be taken by a teacher on a day when that teacher is the only person who can perform a specific scheduled assignment, responsibility, or duty. A cumulative total of twenty-one (21) days per Agreement year will be allowed for such leave. (July 2010)

For Medical Housestaff: Reimbursement for Housestaff participation in Professional/ Educational conferences are for Housestaff who are presenting at the conference and require prior approval of the Program Director, and/or the Director of Medical Education/DIO, taking into consideration coverage, patient care, and educational issues as delineated in the Program-specific Housestaff Manual and GME’s Educational Conference Travel and Expense Reimbursement policy. For Dental Housestaff: Second year dental Housestaff will attend the AAPD annual meeting in May. If dental Housestaff is entitled to paid professional education leave, Housestaff shall be entitled to be reimbursed up to $1,500 for expenses incurred to attend the professional education activity, but only if the activity is approved in advance by the Director of Medical Education and the Program Director. In the event Housestaff is eligible for professional leave and approval to take such leave is granted, Housestaff is responsible for arranging alternate coverage and to notify NCH’s operator. For all Housestaff, educational leave must be in writing and is subject to approval at the discretion of the Program Director. The process of submitting a request for educational leave is specified in the Program-specific Housestaff Manual.

Professional/Educational Leave. The Hospital provides Resident with leave to attend professional/educational seminars, if approved by the Program Director. Payment for and attendance at professional/educational seminars, etc. is allowed on an individual basis as per the approval of the Program Director and Designated Institutional Official (DIO).
Professional/Educational Leave. A leave with pay may be granted up to 5 days for attending professional meetings, such as workshops, seminars and educational programs, provided such leave shall be subject to budgetary considerations, approval of the subject matter to be studied and scheduling requirements of the Hospital. The term “professional meetings” is defined as meetings conducted to develop the skills and qualifications of employees for the purpose of enhancing and upgrading the quality of patient care and shall not include any meetings conducted for other purposes including purposes relating to labor relations or collective bargaining activities. Part-time employees shall be paid on a pro rata basis for attending professional meetings.
