Seller agrees to aggressively seek out and advise Buyer of cost reduction opportunities in the areas of, but not limited to: cycle time reduction, distribution, standardization, paperwork reduction, scrap reduction, material substitution and packaging.

PRODUCTIVITY IMPROVEMENT. The parties shall work together in good faith to reduce redundancy, excess positions, and duplication of jobs by attrition, reassignment, or otherwise on terminals and ships in order to improve their productivity and enhance the competitive position of the Port of New York and New Jersey. The NYSA-ILA Contract Board shall implement this provision. Any chance of reacquiring the work of stuffing and stripping containers requires a dedicated work force of trained, productive workers hired at compensation commensurate with the local competition and without any restrictive rules.
PRODUCTIVITY IMPROVEMENT. The SGIC has developed a strong change oriented corporate culture since its creation in 1987. This development has been driven by the recognition by both management and staff that the Commission has been operating in a competitive environment since the amalgamation of the SGIO and the MVIT. PRODUCTIVITY IMPROVEMENT. The concept of promoting productivity improvements and enhancing the division’s competitive status through active participation in the business planning process by all employees is endorsed and encouraged by both parties. The company and the union agreed to actively encourage participation in involvement programs and activities. Letter #17 KAIZEN / LEAN EVENTS Kaizen / Lean events are a means to improve safety, ergonomics, quality and efficiency in an area or department. The company will determine where and when a Kaizen / Lean event will occur. The company will provide the union with at least a ten (10)-day notice prior to a planned Kaizen / Lean event. During the event, employees in the department may perform whatever task necessary not requiring special skills or training to complete the event in their department. Maintenance workers will be provided for those tasks requiring special skills or training. Letter #18 NEW HIRE ORIENTATION The company agrees to make available a fifteen (15) minute time segment at the end of its current new employee orientation program for a self-contained IAM presentation to be presented by the Union President or his designee. The content of this presentation will be mutually agreed upon by the Company and the Union. Letter #19 IAM NATIONAL 401(k) PLAN The Union has proposed that the defined contribution benefits agreed to by the parties be provided through the Company’s participation in the IAM National 401(k) Plan (the “Plan”), rather than through the Company’s Savings and Investment Plan. The Union acknowledges that, in order to permit such benefits in accordance with the parties’ agreement, certain amendments will be required to be made to the Plan documents governing the Plan. PRODUCTIVITY IMPROVEMENT. Productivity improvement / innovation items are encouraged to be raised at any staff / team meeting. To assist promotion of these Productivity Improvements, staff / team meetings and Executive Leadership Team (ELT) meetings will have a standing agenda item called Productivity Improvements or Innovation. For the purposes of this clause, productivity improvements / innovation can take the form of a change in process or procedure that results in cost or resource savings to Council. The applicability of all suggestions from staff / team meetings will generally be decided upon by the relevant Director, prior to ELT consideration. The ELT will review and consider the applicability of the suggested productivity improvement at its meetings. Conversely, ELT suggested productivity improvement or new innovations can then be forwarded for discussion at staff / team meetings, via the relevant Director.
