Principles of Intent Sample Clauses

Principles of Intent a) Employment continuity of members of the bargaining unit will not be adversely affected by the assignment of work to non-bargaining unit members. b) The Society's members can perform any work, including functions that may also be provided by employees in the bargaining unit, providing they do not receive compensation from the Society other than the reimbursement of expenses and they remain regular employees represented by the Society of United Professionals. Work associated with procuring branded items for the Society; and arranging facilities, catering and arranging accommodations for Society Central events will be done by the Administrative Staff. For purposes of clarity this includes events such as Local Council, BBQ’s, Society-Employer bargaining, Labour Day Parade etc. The SSU will raise with the Staff Director any issues concerning an elected representative of the Society doing work that the SSU feels should be done by Administrative staff. The Staff Director will investigate and either tell the elected representative to stop doing that work or explain to the SSU why it is reasonable for the elected representative to do the work. If the SSU is not satisfied with the Staff Director’s response then it can bring the matter to JSSC. Any disputes which remain unresolved after the JSSC can be referred to arbitration. c) The Employer will continue to assign work to its regular staff consistent with historical practices. d) The assignment of work to Society represented persons on release or rotation and receiving compensation from the Society will not be used in a manner which adversely impacts the opportunities for employees in the bargaining unit to develop their careers, or to perform the type of work they wish to do, providing they are qualified and the viability of the work unit in the Society Office is maintained.
