The foregoing need led to the creation and establishment of the Stanislaus Area Association of Governments on May 11, 1971, the subsequent approval of a Revised Joint Powers Agreement on May 28, 1974, and a subsequent approval of a Joint Powers Agreement establishing the Stanislaus Council of Governments on June 5, 2001.
