Post-Accident/Incident Testing. The City may require employees who are involved in either a job-related accident or a job-related incident involving the apparent violation of a safety rule or standard which did or could have resulted in serious injury requiring medical attention or property damage, to submit to drug testing. Refusal to submit to such testing will be considered an act of insubordination that will result in disciplinary action, up to and including, termination.
Post-Accident/Incident Testing. The Department may require any uniform employee to submit to drug testing when the employee is directly involved in contributing to either a job related accident or a job related incident: a) involving the apparent violation of a safety rule or standard which did result in serious injury requiring medical attention; or b) Involving property damage when the employee is determined by the Battalion Chief or higher ranking officer to be at fault; or c) Involving serious bodily injury requiring medical treatment or death to any person; or d) involving a citation to the employee for a moving violation. Refusal to submit to such screening will be considered an act of insubordination with attendant disciplinary action.
Post-Accident/Incident Testing. If there is reasonable suspicion based on supervisor observation that drug or alcohol use may have caused or contributed to the event, the employee will be required to submit to drug and alcohol testing as soon as practicable following the occurrence of an on-the-job accident or incident where an accident was narrowly avoided. Drug and alcohol tests will be required for employees prior to being released for return to duty following any prohibited conduct as described above, or upon an employee’s return from any absence from the workplace of sixty consecutive days or greater.

Post-Accident/Incident Testing. Employees will be required to take a drug and alcohol test when having involvement in, or cause of, a reportable accident or incident which causes or could have caused personal injury or damage to equipment or property. Testing of employees will be consistently / equally applied to all employees. This test should occur as soon as possible or a maximum of 6 hours after the accident or incident.
