Period of Occupancy. The student may occupy an assigned room at the time specified by the university each semester. If the student fails to occupy the room by 5:00 p.m. on the first day of classes, the university reserves the right to reassign the space or initiate a contract cancellation. However, failure to occupy an assigned space does not automatically release the student from contractual obligation. Occupancy of the room must be relinquished at the completion of the contract. University housing facilities are closed during the periods between semesters, the Thanksgiving holiday and spring break. Residents who are not graduating are required to check out of their residence halls within 24 hours after their last exam but no later than 5:00p.m. on the last day of the exam schedule.

Period of Occupancy. A student’s right to occupancy shall begin not earlier than the first day the halls open for each semester, date and time to be announced prior to each semester. The deadline for claiming the assigned room is the Friday of the first week of class of each semester. Failure to do so may result in the reassignment of the room; however, the contract will remain in force. Prior written notice is required to hold a reservation after the deadline. Residence halls are closed at the end of each semester and during official break periods at a time and date specified by Housing Services. The posted closing time at the end of each semester is for those students participating in commencement exercises. All other residents must vacate within 24 hours after their last examination. Residence halls are open during the three breaks in the academic year calendar; however, residents are required to register for break access. The athletic department, the Corps of Cadets, and Oak Lane organizations may coordinate with Housing Services to establish different occupancy schedules. Those organizations should be consulted for specific details. While Housing Services attempts to have the 12-month building(s) (currently Xxxxxxxxx Xxxxx – Graduate Life Center) available, major maintenance, emergencies, or renovation may require reassignment to another residence hall during the summer months. Although infrequent, Housing Services reserves the right to reassign any student if necessary.

Non-graduating students must vacate their room 24 hours after their last exam or by the published residence hall closing date and time, whichever comes first. Graduating seniors must vacate by 10am on the day following May commencement. Students who have successfully completed graduation requirements in the Fall semester must vacate their room by the published residence hall closing date and time for the Fall semester.

Residence halls remain open during the fall, Thanksgiving, and spring breaks. Residents who are not graduating are required to check out of their residence halls within 48 hours after their last exam, each semester. At the close of the spring 2023 semester, graduating students and those approved for late check-out must check out of the residence halls by 10AM on the Monday following Commencement in May. Residents of Tribe Square may occupy their residences beginning summer 2022, through fall 2022 and spring 2023. The period of occupancy for Tribe Square residents ends at 10:00 AM on the Monday following Commencement in May 2023. Residents of Tribe Square may occupy their residences during the Winter Break.

Period of Occupancy. The Housing Contract includes both living centers and apartments. Move in dates are determined annually prior to the start of classes for the academic term. Occupancy begins when you check-in and pick up your key. If you are not graduating at the end of the semester, occupancy ends at 10:00 p.m. on the last day of Final Examinations. If you are graduating at the end of the winter semester, housing will be provided until 12 p.m. noon on the day after Commencement. You may occupy a living center or apartment during only those periods of the academic year when the University classes are in session. You may not occupy a living center or apartment during holiday or break periods unless you request authorization from the Housing and Residence Life Office. Limited dining options are available during holidays and semester breaks.
Period of Occupancy. UNC Charlotte will provide guest housing for the guest period based on the guest’s request and the available date of the unit, after cleaning, to the guest whose signature appears on the Contract application. Under rare circumstances and only by prior agreement, the guest may be granted approval to move into University housing before the period of occupancy or move after the date outlined above. If given approval for housing, the guest agrees to pay the cost of such housing and understands that they may be required to move to a temporary space. Additionally, the guest agrees that all other terms and conditions of this Contract apply during their entire length of stay in guest housing.

Plans for the holiday periods and travel arrangements should be made well in advance. The athletic department, the Corps of Cadets, and Oak Lane organizations may coordinate with Housing Services to establish different occupancy schedules. Those organizations should be consulted for particulars.
