Partial Authorization and Authorization Reversal Clause Samples
The Partial Authorization and Authorization Reversal clause governs how payment transactions are handled when the full amount requested cannot be authorized. In practice, this clause allows a payment processor to approve a portion of the transaction amount if the cardholder’s available funds are insufficient, and to reverse or cancel the authorization if the transaction is not completed. This mechanism ensures that merchants can capture partial payments when necessary and that unused authorizations are promptly released, thereby reducing the risk of funds being unnecessarily held and improving transaction efficiency.
Partial Authorization and Authorization Reversal. Partial authorization provides an alternative to a declined transaction by permitting a Card Issuer to return an authorization approval for a partial amount, an amount less than the transaction amount requested by the merchant when the available card balance is not sufficient to approval the transaction in full. The Cardholder is able to use up the remaining funds on the card and select another form of payment (i.e., another payment card, cash, check) for the remaining balance of the transaction. If You support partial authorizations, a partial authorization indicator must be included in each authorization request.
