Paid Holidays – Long Weekends. (a) When an employee is scheduled to work a weekend where a paid holiday falls on the Monday or the Friday, the Employer shall endeavour to also schedule the employee to work the paid holiday. (b) When the employee is scheduled off on a weekend where a paid holiday falls on the Monday or the Friday, the Employer shall endeavour to schedule the employee off the paid holiday. (c) In the event of a scheduling conflict, 12.07 (a) will be the deciding provision. 12.08 (a) Subject to the operational requirements of the home, a full time employee who qualifies for a lieu day with pay may elect to accumulate up to a maximum of three (3) lieu days in a calendar year. These may be taken singly, consecutively or added to her vacation. Such requests shall not be unreasonable denied. The accumulation of lieu days is subject to the following: i) An employee who requests to take a lieu day must so notify the Director of Care or designate in writing at least one (1) week prior to the posting of the schedule in which the request is being made for. ii) Lieu days cannot be carried over from year to year and must be taken by December 15th, with the exception of any lieu days earned for Christmas and Boxing Day. Any lieu days not used prior to December 15th will be paid to the employee no later than December 30th of the same year.
