Objectives and Milestones. 8.1 Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) Performance Indicator data (HESA, 2007) show CCCU to have maintained a relatively strong position in recruiting students from lower socio-economic groups (35.7% of young full time ‘first’ degree and ‘other’ under-graduate entrants are from NS SEC groups 4 – 7 compared to the median for all universities of 32% [Universities UK, 2007]). In charging higher tuition fees, the approach detailed in this Agreement is designed to minimise as far as possible the potential reduction in applications from students from low and middle income groups.

Objectives of the Agreement The parties to this agreement are committed to the following objectives: • Implementation of work practices and / or processes to improve the efficiency, profitability and competitive position of the company. • Implementation of relevant market competitive remuneration and work practices. • Implementation of relevant market competitive remuneration, classification frameworks and principles to enhance attraction and retention of employees in roles that are in demand by competitors due to the current national skills shortage. • A national competency based classification framework and principles to enhance attraction and retention of employees. • To provide training and development opportunities that enhance employee career paths and / or nationally accredited recognition. • Implement work practices organised to maximise the flexibility of the workforce and enable competent employees to work across their full range of competencies as required to meet business needs. • Removal of any restrictive workplace practices which prevent employees from performing tasks / utilising their skills for which they are competent and paid to do so. • Implementation of negotiated individual business specific initiatives.
