Nursing Mothers. During negotiations, the parties discussed issues related to the return of employees from maternity leave to the workplace. One issue of mutual concern related to the accommodation of employees requiring facilities for the purpose of expressing breast milk. Each location will explore reasonable accommodations within the existing facilities. The local Employment Equity Representative or Women's Advocate will act as an additional resource for employees interested in using this service. (n99)(c05)

Nursing Mothers. 68.1 Employees who are breastfeeding will be provided with the facilities and support necessary to enable such employees to combine a continuation of such breastfeeding with the employee’s employment.
Nursing Mothers. In recognition of the well documented health advantages of breastfeeding for infants and mothers, Lakeshore Public Schools will provide a supportive environment to enable breastfeeding mothers to express milk during working hours. LPS will create spaces and common signage to indicate areas being used by nursing mothers for expressing milk and bring awareness of this space to all employees. Employees are responsible for keeping the milk expression areas clean using antimicrobial wipes. As each situation will be unique, employees who wish to express milk during the work day will keep the building principal informed of their needs and work collaboratively with the building principal so appropriate accommodations can be made. Accommodations should include: a locked door from inside, privacy screen, a chair, and a power source. Allotted time for expressing milk will not infringe on language concerning breaks and planning time in the Master Agreement.

The employee, school nurse, and principal shall meet and make arrangements that include the following: a designated location, an agreed upon number of expression times per day and the length of time per expression. The designated location shall be a room or location that is within the school building and will provide the employee with privacyand sanitaryconditions.

Nursing Mothers. As part of its ongoing commitment to assisting employees to balance employment with family responsibilities, the Council seeks to provide appropriate support for lactating mothers who wish to breastfeed after returning to work. Accordingly, a reasonable number of breaks will be provided for employees who require time during working hours to express and store breast milk or to breastfeed a child in nearby care. An employee shall liaise with their supervisor about the most appropriate arrangements for this purpose. Council will aim to meet the standards for a breastfeeding friendly workplace where an employee requests facilities for breastfeeding or expressing.
Nursing Mothers. The Employer shall provide nursing mothers with a reasonable break time to express breast milk whenever needed throughout the workday. The frequency and length of such breaks may vary depending on the needs of the nursing mother, e.g., the time required to express milk. If extra time is needed, an option may be for time to be made up before or after work, through Telework arrangements, or by using other work schedule flexibilities. If the Department issues guidance under which the Employer is authorized to permit nursing mothers additional paid time to express milk, the Employer shall notify the Union and give it an opportunity to bargain about the subject. Nursing mothers may submit written requests to their immediate supervisors or designees to be permitted time to express and save milk in a private place other than a bathroom (i.e., space shielded from view and free from intrusion by coworkers and the public) while at the workplace. Such requests shall be submitted sufficiently far in advance as to allow time for the supervisor/designee to make the arrangements, and shall specify: Duration of the request;
Nursing Mothers. An employee who is a nursing mother may take reasonable breaks each day to express breast milk. The employee’s supervisor shall help the employee arrange a break schedule accommodating the nursing mother while minimizing disruption. The break time must, if possible, run concurrently with any break time already provided to the employee. The supervisor shall provide a location, in close proximity to the work area, other than a toilet stall, where the employee can express her milk in private.
