Starting “in house”, I was involved in starting and serving on the SWAT team and initiating the first mandatory psychological intervention after traumatic incidents. As a private contractor, I have worked with State and local agencies to develop tools and procedures for psychological evaluation that set standards nationwide. The methods used are fiscally responsible with no adverse impact. There have been no legal actions related to my services. Over the years I have stayed on top of Californiaall professional developments. I was instrumental in developing the field of police psychology, including 1031F of the Government Code, and most recently establishing specialty status and certification (ABPP). I served on the founding executive committee of the American Board of Police and Public Safety Psychology from 2011 to 2016. The committee set the standard requirements for certification and examined prospective specialists. I consulted on the original 1984 POST Pre Employment Psychological Screening Guidelines and on laws related to psychological services. As a consultant to POST, I worked on the recent guidelines revision chairing the section on interview protocol. I taught seminars with POST to train psychologists across the State. Currently, I serve on a POST committee that crafted requirements for psychologists to conduct pre-employment screening. We approve acceptable course work. My Commission Expires consultation with POST has included input on the Background Investigation Guidelines, 20 State regulations, and issues of reinstatement and reserve peace officers. Professional Services Agreement Providing Because POST does not govern firefighters I worked with fire departments to adapt guidelines to their needs. Last year we provided psychological services including pre-employment psychological evaluations, fitness for duty evaluations, and critical incident debriefings and post traumatic interventions for approximately (100) public safety agencies.
