Common use of Necessary Approval Clause in Contracts

Necessary Approval. All coursework subject to reimbursement will be transmitted, in advance and through the Division/Department Head, to the Director of Human Resources for approval. The Division/Department Head will provide a written recommendation concerning approval/disapproval of the request at time of transmittal to the Director of Human Resources. If practicable, an employee will make application for approval of coursework at least fifteen (15) days prior to commencement of the course of study. The Director of Human Resources will evaluate the employee's coursework/degree program for job-relatedness and will notify the employee, in writing, regarding approval/disapproval of said course- work/degree program on that basis. The City agrees that approval of coursework/degree program will not be unreasonably withheld. An employee may receive blanket approval for an entire degree program or a continuing course of study if all courses within the program are identified. If all or part of the program is approved, the employee need not reapply for approval for each course within the portion(s) approved.
