Low-Census Day. If Hospital expects a reduction in force within the shift of a unit to last for 21 continuous calendar days or less, this low-census-day provision applies. Day-agency nurses will be sent home before Full-time, Part-time 19 and Per Diem nurses employed under the terms of this Agreement. 21 4. A nurse will be told at the beginning of the nurse’s shift whether he or she 22 will be needed for any period during such shift. A nurse who is told that 23 he or she is assigned low census for the first portion of his or her shift will 24 work the assigned portion of the shift at the nurse’s regular hourly rate of 25 pay. If the nurse is assigned to be on standby by the Hospital and is 26 subsequently called into work while on standby status, the nurse will be 27 paid according to Appendix A, Section I.2.
Low-Census Day. If the Facility determines that it must reduce the hours on any shift due to low census, employees in seniority order will be offered the opportunity to take additional time off. If no employee elects to take additional time off, hours shall be reduced first by reducing/eliminating overtime hours then by discontinuing temps and casuals, and then part-time in reverse seniority order. Any employee whose hours have been reduced will be given preference to work additional hours on other shifts up to the number of hours for which the employee was normally scheduled to work prior to the reduction.
Low-Census Day. In the event the Employer requests an employee to take a "low census day" off because of low patient census, the Employer shall make every effort to notify those employees affected at least two (2) hours before such "low census day". The assignment of an employee to a "low census day" off shall be based upon practices heretofore prevailing. Employees requested to take a "low census day" off shall accrue all benefits for such day. The employee may request a vacation day for a low census day and will be paid for that vacation day provided that the employee has such vacation time available and is otherwise eligible to use vacation.
