LHE. The cumulative balance in a faculty bank shall not exceed 30 LHE. During any semester in which a faculty member’s bank exceeds 30 LHE, the faculty member may not bank any additional hours until the next semester in which the faculty member’s bank is equal to or less than 30 LHE. When a faculty member’s bank reaches 24.0 LHE, the faculty member shall file an appropriate plan of how the bank will be used with the Vice President, Academic Affairs. When a faculty member’s bank reaches or exceeds 30.0 LHE, the faculty member shall complete the Bank Usage Form found in Appendix M to identify how they intend to reduce their bank to 30.0 or fewer LHEs within four consecutive semesters. Nonfulfillment of the submitted plan will result in the Vice President, Academic Affairs directing an appropriate plan for compliance. An “appropriate plan” shall not include payment for banked LHEs without the faculty member’s consent. By October 15 of each year, the District will give the Association a list of faculty who have submitted a plan or who have received a directed plan.

LHE. However, where necessary to facilitate scheduling, a maximum contract workload of seventeen (17) LHE may be assigned for the fall semester provided that, except by mutual agreement, no single class in the assignment is equal to the amount of LHE over fifteen (15) LHE.

LHE. Lecture Hour Equivalent, or LHE, is the unit of workload for all adjunct faculty assignments. Normally, LHEs assigned for a course are equal to the credit hours for that course (but see exceptions in Article 9 above). LHEs are used for the purposes of determining pay, bargaining unit membership, maximum assignment loads, and seniority. For these purposes all adjunct faculty assignments, even those compensated on a flat rate or hourly basis, are converted to LHEs using the formulas in Article 9, Compensation.

LHE. (4) Summer Department Chair Compensation Department Chairs assigned to perform chair duties throughout the summer will be paid according to the following table, using ptWFCH and Sections as defined in Section 15.9.c.3 above. The total amount of compensation will be derived by combining the amount of LHE earned in both categories, as determined by the department’s placement in each category on the table.
