K-12 Teacher Duty Days: Pursuant to M.S. 120A.40, the school board shall, prior to April 1 of each school year, establish the school calendar for the coming year, and the teacher shall perform services on those days as determined by the school board, including those legal holidays on which the school board is authorized to conduct school, and pursuant to such authority has determined to conduct school. The length of the school year shall consist of 185 duty days for teachers, including: student days, orientation and workshop days and in-service training days as determined by the school board.

Stat. 126.12, the School District shall, prior to April of each school year, establish the number of school days and teacher duty days for the next school year and the teacher shall perform services on those days as determined by the School District, including those legal holidays on which the School District is authorized to conduct school and pursuant to such authority has determined to conduct school. A duty day is considered a day spent in classroom instruction, teacher-parent conferences, teacher workshop, either pre-school, during the school term, or post-school, or teacher workday.

The Association and the Committee agree that, for the duration of this Agreement, required attendance by teachers shall be limited to: three (3) mandatory professional days to be used for curriculum planning, in-service training, pertinent workshops and/or any other educational activity promoting a teacher’s value to the student and/or system. Any additional days for which a teacher is compensated in a special manner or for which a teacher has volunteered (non-working day trip) will not be construed as being part of the scheduled professional days.

School year student contact days shall not immediately follow evening parent-teacher conferences, whenever possible.
