Leave of Absence Request. All leaves are to be requested from the Employer in writing as far in advance as possible, stating all pertinent details and the amount of time requested. A written reply to grant or deny the request shall be given by the Employer within fourteen (14) days of the request. A denied request shall be accompanied by a letter of explanation. A leave of absence request shall not be unreasonably denied.

Leave of Absence Request. Employees who have been ill or disabled and have exhausted their sick days shall apply for a medical leave of absence within thirty (30) days or as soon as notice can be made. A physician’s statement shall be submitted with the application for medical leave of absence indicating the nature of the illness and the medical reasons for the leave of absence and expected return date. Requests for all other types of leave of absence shall be made in writing to the Board of Education. The Board shall consider an application the notice for a leave of absence at its first Regular Meeting following submission of the application, provided it is submitted at least seven (7) days prior to a Regular Meeting. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary, it is understood and agreed that for purposes of the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), employee paid sick/personal leave days must be used where applicable, and such paid leave days shall be counted and included in calculating the employee’s entitlement for employer-paid Medical insurance benefits. The period of entitlement to FMLA benefits shall be based on a rolling 12-month period.

Leave of Absence Request. 21 Upon recommendation of the immediate supervisor through administrative channels to the 22 Superintendent, and upon approval of the Board of Directors, an employee may be granted a leave 23 of absence for a period not to exceed one (1) year. If such leave is granted due to extended illness, 24 one (1) additional year may be granted.
Leave of Absence Request. This will confirm the discussions at negotiations wherein management advised the Union that if, due to unforeseen personal circumstances or an approved University student exchange, an employee is unable to fulfill the enrollment requirements of Article 5.01, the employee may apply in writing for a leave of absence of not more than one (1) year. Such requests shall be decided at the sole discretion of management provided such discretion shall be exercised in a non-discriminatory manner. This letter shall expire December 31, 2014.
