International Models. An international survey of cities, regions and economic development agencies yielded an initial list of fifteen prospects. In identifying instances relevant for the Western Cape and Cape Town, we looked for coastal regions with significant ports and we favoured secondary over primary cities and regions. ▇▇▇ was assisted in the assessment of international case studies by London-based GHK International. The cities/regions were selected to include developing countries, examples of turnaround success, examples of provincial rather than capital city-regions, as well as commonly-cited world ‘best practice’ examples.
