Insurance 1. The Joint Authority shall require the contractor to take out and maintain from the effective date of the contract, to the satisfaction of the Joint Authority, insurance on a strict liability basis and for an amount determined by the Joint Authority in consultation with applicants for contracts. It shall also agree with the contractor on a mechanism whereby compensation claims can be determined. The insurance shall cover expenses or liabilities or any other specified things arising in connection with the carrying out of petroleum operations and other activities associated with those operations in the contract area, including expenses associated with the prevention and clean-up of the escape of petroleum.
