Hypervelocity Impact Test Laboratory. The lab. possesses the unique ability to launch single projectiles as small as 0.05 mm and perform testing on hazardous targets under highly specialized conditions. Targets may be heated/cooled, pressurized, energized, or contain toxic and/or flammable materials. WSTF is the sole NASA facility to simulate micrometeoroid / orbital debris impacts for manned space flight and is the only facility capable of repeatedly launching single projectiles smaller than 1.0 mm and is not available in the commercial marketplace.
