General Unpaid Leave of Absence. The Board may grant a bargaining unit member up to two (2) years of absence without pay for personal or family health reasons, for continuing education, or for other reasons approved by the Board, upon receipt of a written request by that bargaining unit member.

General Unpaid Leave of Absence. A general unpaid leave of absence is a leave of absence from work for personal reasons and commences when PTO is exhausted. Teachers have a professional responsibility to notify the District in writing of their request by February 1st in the school year preceding the leave request. While on an approved leave of absence, no teacher shall obtain full-time, gainful employment (other than that identified in their application) utilizing their discipline and/or license. If extenuating circumstances exist, the teacher may request an exception to this rule. No exceptions will be granted unless mutually agreed upon by the Association President and the Superintendent or designee. In the absence of any extenuating circumstances, any violation of this provision shall be considered an automatic resignation on behalf of the teacher from Arlington Heights School District 25.
General Unpaid Leave of Absence. In the event a request for leave is not covered by any other provision of this agreement, an employee may request a general unpaid leave of absence for a period of up to twelve consecutive months. The District has complete discretion in deciding whether a request for a general unpaid leave of absence will be granted. The District’s decision to grant or deny such a request is not subject to the grievance process.
General Unpaid Leave of Absence. A leave may be requested in writing for a period not to exceed one (1) year from the date of leaving. Whether or not to grant an unpaid leave of absence shall be at the complete discretion of the Board of Education. An employee shall notify the Director of Human Resources in writing two (2) months prior to the expiration date of the leave if he/she desires to return after the leave period is completed. The employee shall be returned to a comparable job as soon as is practicable, but not necessarily the same position held prior to the leave of absence. Notwithstanding the foregoing, employees on unpaid leave of absence shall not be insulated from reductions in force.
