General Principles of Source Control. ‌ ▪ Eliminate pathways that may introduce pollutants to stormwater. ▪ Capture acute releases and reduce chronic contamination. ▪ Drain wastewater discharges, and areas with the potential for relatively consistent wastewater discharges (such as vehicle washing facilities) to the sanitary sewer system. ▪ Drain areas that have the potential for acute releases or accidental spills, and are not expected to regularly receive flow or require water use (such as covered fuel islands or covered containment areas) to a dead-end sump or other containment device. ▪ Contain spills on-site; and ▪ Provide permanent structural solutions to address the range of potential impacts resulting from multiple site uses and tenant turnover.
