General Leave Provisions. All leaves of absence, including Union or personal leave, must be requested by an employee in writing as far in advance as possible stating the reason for the leave and the amount of time requested. Except as otherwise provided in this Agreement, it shall be the Employer’s prerogative to grant or deny the request. Leave requests shall not be unreasonably denied. A leave of absence begins on the first date of absence from work. Failure to return from a leave of absence by the agreed upon return date subjects the employee to discipline up to and including discharge. In extenuating circumstances, when the return date needs to be extended or changed, the employee will communicate the need for the change as early as possible to the Employer.
