For Firefighters. When a day designated as a holiday under clause coincides with a firefighter’s day of rest, the Employer shall schedule a lieu day, subject to operational requirements and seven (7) days advance written notice, at such a time as the Employee may request. Notwithstanding the seven (7) days notice requirement, lieu days requested on shorter notice will be considered for approval, subject to operational requirements. When a day designated as a holiday for a firefighter is moved to another day under the provisions of this clause, work performed by a firefighter on the day from which the holiday was moved shall be considered as worked performed on the day of rest. Where a day that is a designated holiday for an employee coincides with a day of leave with pay, that day shall count as a holiday and not as a day of leave. Where operational requirements permit, the Employer shall not schedule an employee to work both December and January in the same holiday season. Where applicable, an employee who has worked December the previous holiday season will be given preference to having December off in the subsequent season. Seniority shall be the deciding factor in resolving conflicts between employees in regard to holiday scheduling identified in this Article. An employee who works on a holiday shall be paid:

For Firefighters. (current practice to continue) a) When a day designated as a holiday under clause 27.01 coincides with a firefighter’s day of rest, the Employer shall grant up to a maximum of seven (7) lieu days at the employee’s option as the eleven (11) statutory holidays occur, all other days will be compensated in cash, subject to operational requirements and adequate advance notice, at such a time as the Employee may request four (4) of the eleven (11) days must be paid out. b) When in a calendar year an Employee has not been granted all lieu days as requested at the Employee’s option, such lieu days shall be paid in cash for each unused lieu day at the Employee’s applicable rate of pay.
