Fixation. Formaldehyde a liquid fixing agent was used as a solution of a specimen. It was used to penetrates the tissues slowly to change it chemically and physically to protect it from any damage. The most popular fixative was formalin that used to preserving tissues and it was processed to prepare paraffin sections. Regarding the time of fixation, the specimen was fixed for between 6 - 24 hours.

Fixation. The European Court of Justice derives from the requirement of the systematic or methodical arrangement that a database must be fixed.71 Indeed, electronic databases and databases in general cannot very well be imagined without fixation. The Directive explicitly requires fixation for electronic databases; recital 13 demands these to be ‘arranged, stored and accessed by means which include electronic, electromagnetic or electro-optical processes or analogous processes’.72 The Directive does not explicitly impose storage requirements on non- electronic databases.73 Yet, it prescribes that the items of a database are indi- vidually accessible.
